Australia’s Special Envoy to Combat Antisemitism has welcomed the release of the Interim Report of the Royal Commission on Antisemitism and Social Cohesion and its 14 recommendations.

“This report confirms what many in the community have been experiencing — antisemitism is not only a threat to Jewish Australians, but a threat to Australian values and Australia’s vibrant multicultural society,” the Special Envoy said.

The Interim Report predominantly addresses security, policing, emergency response, and firearms matters. The Special Envoy welcomes the Commission’s findings in these areas and notes that Recommendation 1, which explicitly addresses the Jewish community, has the Special Envoy’s full support.

The Special Envoy also welcomes the federal government’s commitment to adopt and implement all recommendations of the Interim Report relating to the Commonwealth.

The report identifies a number of areas for further investigation, and more detail will emerge as hearings commence next week.
